'93 Serial Blasts: Sanjay Dutt to be sentenced today

Bollywood star, Sanjay Dutt, will be sentenced in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, by the TADA court later today. Dutt and three of his associates, Yusuf Nulawala, Kersi Adejania and Rusi Mula, were convicted under the Arms Act. Their charges carry a minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum imprisonment of 10 years.

India secures consular access to Sabeel Ahmed: UK failed bombings

India has secured consular access to Sabeel Ahmed, an accused in the UK car bombing case. According to sources, an official of the Indian High Commission met Ahmed and sought whether he needed any assistance. Ahmed informed the official that his solicitor would contact him.

Maninder Pal Singh Kohli,an accused in the Hannah Foster rape and murder case,who was extradited to the UK, was remanded to custody by a court in the UK. Kohli,who faces charges of manslaughter, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice, was asked to appear at Winchester Crown court on Friday.

The Australian Immigration minister, Kevin Andrews, refused to release "the information" on the basis of which he cancelled Haneef Mohammed's visa. Andrews, who is under pressure due to his decision to cancel the visa, said that the reason for doing so, may not be released after discussions with the Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty.

South Korean hostage killed : Taliban

The Taliban claimed to have shot dead a South Korean hostage after the deadline given to the government to free the prisoners had expired. According to a Taliban spokesman, a male hostage was shot dead as the Afghan government was not listening to their demands.

Haneef's colleague suspended by hospital : Australia

Haneef Mohammed's colleague at the Gold Coast hospital, Mohammad Asif Ali, was suspended from his job. The decision to suspend Ali was not related to terrorism charges, however it was taken by the director general of the hospital, after receiving some information from the Queensland Police.

Dr Haneef Mohammed, who returned to India, after terror charges were dropped against him, said that he wanted Australia to apologise to his "peace-loving country". Haneef said that: "I don't expect an apology from the Australian government or the authorities but I would appreciate if they apologise to my peace-loving country and citizens".

Sheikh Hasina released on bail, trial suspended

Boat capsizes in Ganga, killing 16 people

A boat carrying pilgrims capsized in the river Ganga near Garhwa ghat, killing sixteen people, mainly women and children. The reason for the mishap was overcrowding, as the boat was carrying around 25 pilgrims. Nine people, including the boat owner managed to swim to safety.
