Sensex falls by 327 points

The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, the Sensex fell by over 327 point in early trade on Wednesday on account of heavy selling by funds amid brokers covering their pending long positions. The Sensex fell to 14,592.11 in the first five minute of trading.

DLF down 1.2%

DLF made an announcement that it had acquired 25 acres of land from the Andhra Pradesh state government for Rs4.5bn which would be used for IT purposes. The DLF scrip has slipped by 1.2% to Rs580 after touching an intra-day high of Rs582 and a low of Rs574 on the NSE.

BSE picks up 5% stake in CSE

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has picked up a 5% stake in the Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE). Asia's oldest stock exchange, which will be a strategic partner, has signed an MOU for the revival and growth of CSE and its members. Rajnikant Patel, the Managing Director and CEO of the BSE, said "We believe that BSE, CSE combination presents a good business opportunity for both BSE and CSE's members

FSL Solutions rises by 7.5%

On the basis of weak cues from the international markets, the stock markets were predictably in the red. The lagging movers in the Sensex included index heavyweights such as ICICI Bank, Infosys, RIL, HDFC Bank and L&T. At 9:58am (IST), the BSE 30-share Sensex has slipped by 248 points 14676 and NSE Nifty has slipped by 67 points at 4255.

Violent clashes in Agra, curfew in some parts

The city of Agra was tense following an accident wherein four youths taking part in a religious festival were crushed beneath a speeding truck. The event sparked a strong reaction from locals who went on a rampage, setting 20 trucks on fire and clashing with police. The police imposed curfew in certain areas.

Fashion designer Anand Jon was summoned to a court on Tuesday on charges of 40 felony and misdemeanour counts, including rape, sexual battery and committing a lewd act on a child. Jon changed lawyers and the judge postponed the setting of his preliminary hearing date until September 26.
