UTV in talks to hive off broadcast unit stake for Rs 600 cr

UTV Global Broadcasting, a media company is currently discussing the sale of a stake in it's broadcasting unit with strategic investors for a cnsideration of Rs 600 crore. The managing director of UTV, Ronnie Screwvala said that the channel Bindass will launch by the end of the month. He said the broadcasting business will give UTV a lot of room to grow over the next 2-3 years.

Posiitve outlook for indices

Following signs of stability in the country's political scenario, the foreign institutional investors have renewed their faith in the Indian stock markets and the outlook for the markets look positive. The NSE's Nifty ended 112 points or 2.68 per cent higher at 4302.6, while the Sensex closed up 418 points or 2.89 per cent at 14,842.38.

Markets open on a low note

On the back of subdued cues from the US and Asian markets, the markets have opened on a flat note this morning. At 9:58am (IST), the BSE 30-share Sensex has slipped by 38 points 14775 and NSE Nifty has slipped by 15 points at 4288. The index heavyweights such as ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Infosys and L&T are the major laggards dragging the indices down.

Reliance Energy gains 1.4%

Following the announcement by Reliance Energy that its 4,000MW Raigad project may get delayed as the Bombay High Court put a stay on the construction activities, the script has gained 1.4% to touch Rs774. The script reached an intra-day high of Rs778 and a low of Rs751 and recorded volumes of over 2,00,000 shares on NSE.

TCS down 0.2% to Rs1026

TCS made an announcement yesterday that they have signed a pact for IT, Infrastructure services. Following the announcement, the script edged lower by 0.2% to Rs1026. It touched an intra-day high of Rs1039 and a low of Rs1023 and while recording volumes of over 41,000 shares on NSE.

Wipro slips 1% to Rs459

Wipro, which is India's third-largest software services exporter, plans to open a software development center in Atlanta. In the third year of its operations, the facility is likely to employ more than 500 employees. The Wipro script has slipped by 1% to Rs459 after touching an intra-day high of Rs463 and a low of Rs458.

UP has highest number of educated convicts :Report

As per a report prepared by the National Crime Records Bureau, the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) accounts for the highest number of graduate and post graduate convicts and undertrials. UP with 1,048 'graduate' convicts, is followed by Punjab and Madhya Pradesh which has 651 and 559 convicts who are graduates respectively.

Anti-corruption drive hits a roadblock

The anti-corruption drive spearheaded by the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has stirred up a hornet's nest although the menace of corruption shows no signs of reducing.
