Friends of India program begis with $250,000

The Virginia-based United Way International has launched a United Way Friends of India Program, in commemoration of India's 60th year of independence. The program has received a grant of $250,000 from the Principal Financial Group CEO Barry Griswell.

Internet giant, Yahoo Inc will be shutting down Yahoo Photos-its first-generation photo storage site- and will ask its users to migrate to Flickr, which is Yahoo's Web 2.0 photo sharing site. Yahoo also will offer its patrons the option of loading their photos on PhotoBucket and other photo printing and storage site such as Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly Inc or Snapfish.

The Leader of Opposition L K Advani’s statement that if the UPA government were to make an amendment to the Atomic Energy Act to protect India’s strategic independence then “there is no problem with the 123 Agreement” has thrown the BJP into a tailspin. The latest terror attack at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chaat Bhandar in Hyderabad were directed at the entire country. The city police in Hyderabad had announced its biggest catch in counterfeit currency on the day of the serial blasts which rocked the IT hub of India. The police are suspecting a link between the blasts and the fake currency racket. Also the investigators are drawing parallels between the serial blasts on Sunday and the Sankat Mochan blasts in Varanasi.

The Canadian government has asked citizens to refrain from using the Indian-made Neem Active toothpaste with calcium because it contains dangerous levels of a poisonous chemical and harmful bacteria. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI ) managed to strike gold on Monday, in a deal with the Singapore-based sports marketing firm World Sports Group (WSG). As per the deal, the BCCI will sell the ground sponsorship rights and title naming rights for a total of 55 matches to be played in India till March 2010 for Rs 173.2 crore to the WSG.
