Manohar all set to be BCCI president-elect

The person to succeed Sharad Pawar as the President of the BCCI is most likely to be Shashank Manohar. Pawar will step down next June ahead of the BCCIs AGM in September 2008 because of his nomination as the president-elect of the International Cricket Council.

The Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said that if he were to be re-elected for a fresh term, he would honour his commitment to the Supreme Court to quit the post of army chief. Musharraf filed his nomination papers on Thursday for the October six Presidential polls, formally launching his bid for another five-year term.

The Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that it would be a monumental waste if India were to let go of the opportunity presented by the civil nuclear deal with the US. The FM told students at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia that he believed India should go ahead and complete the rest of the steps for implementing the 123 agreement.

The Pakistani Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered the release of at least 100 opposition workers who were arrested to stop protests against the President Pervez Musharraf. The workers were seized after vowing to hold demonstrations against Musharraf's plans to be re-elected as president for another five years in a poll on October 6.

The Australian captain praised Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth's on-field aggression and added that his team would direct the same kind of aggression against the Indian team in the upcoming ODI series.
