Jeweller arrested in Borivli building collapse

The police have arrested, Kailash Jain, a jeweller in connection with the collapse of the Laxmi Chhaya building. Jain, owned a jewellery shop in the buiding and had carried out major structural changes inside his shop, which led to the collapse of the building. Jain will be charged under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Australia may sell uranium to India

India may be able to purchase uranium from Australia although it is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty if Canberra approves a submission from Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer. Downer will ask the Cabinet to approve the export of Australian uranium to India in a submission, which will be considered by the government within weeks.

The country's first woman IPS officer, Kiran Bedi, was furious over the fact that she was overlooked for the post of Delhi Police Commissioner, which eventually went to her 'junior', Y S Dadwal. BJP to stake claim to form govt : Goa

In a bid to form the next government in Goa, the BJP-led government will stake a claim to that effect before the Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan on Thursday afternoon. Currently the government comprises the Congress with 16 legislators, NCP with three, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party with two MLAs along with two more independents. The BJP is the main opposition with 14 legislators.
