Bangalore-The Silicon Valley of India-home to around 1700 Information Technology companies, is now facing severe hazards posed by the increasing volume of electronic waste (e-waste). This IT hub of India generates anywhere about 6,000 to 8,000 tonnes of e-waste annually and this is a burning issue which needs to be addressed immediately.

"The New 7 Wonders of the World" campaign which has generated a lot of interest lately, has apparently been launched by the owner of a Swiss website. "The whole campaign is a media hoax," says Surendra Sharma, president of the Braj Mandal Heritage Conservation Society in Agra. "How can the whole government machinery be used to hype a campaign launched by a private entrepreneur?"

According to the police, the land mafia - mostly a bunch of unscrupulous real estate agents - form a well-organised network to keep a close watch on the lands and properties of those NRIs who hardly visit the city.The mafia not only sells such land with forged documents but also puts NRIs in trouble by obtaining bank loans against their property.

On the 22nd anniversary of the Air-India tragedy, a memorial inscribed with the names of all the 331 persons who lost their lives in the bombing, was unveiled in Toronto on Saturday. The memorial featured a sundial, gardens and a granite wall.
