'I will surrender in Jodhpur' : Salman

Bollywood star Salman Khan, who is flying down to Jodhpur with his family members and lawyer Dipesh Mehta, informed journalists that he would be surrendering before the Jodhpur court on Saturday. Salman said, "A warrant has been apparently issued and as per advice from my lawyers, I am going to Jodhpur to surrender."

The Bishnoi community responded to the Jodhpur District and Sessions Court's decision to uphold the five-year sentence awarded to Salman Khan by saying that it is a correct decision. The community is very happy that justice has prevailed and that Khan has been booked. The Prosecution provided such witnesses before the judicial magistrate that the case became stronger against Salman Khan.

Salman Khan is the most recent Bollywood celebrity to be caught on the wrong side of the law. A few weeks ago, actor Sanjay Dutt was imprisoned for possessing illegal weapons. Veteran actor Balraj Sahni was arrested in 1951 for his Leftist leanings while working in K Asif's Hulchul. While actress Monica Bedi served 5 years in jail after being charged in a fake passport scam.

The Congress and the Left parties are taking steps to defuse the impasse over the Indo-US nuclear deal and have announcemed that they would begin a dialogue on the issue next week. The Congress president Sonia Gandhi presided over a meeting of the core Congress members to discuss the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other top party leaders.

'Majority Indians against mid-term elections' : Poll

According to an opinion poll conducted by the Outlook magazine, a majority of 63 per cent Indians are opposed to mid-term elections. While 61 per cent people in urban areas oppose mid-term polls, in rural areas 68 per cent are against it. Also, fifty-two per cent people are backing the Indo-US nuclear deal, while 21 per cent are against it and 27 per cent are unaware of the agreement.

3 Briitsh soldiers killed in US Bombing : Afghanistan

A US aircraft dropped a bomb in southern Afghanistan killing three British soldiers, taking the death toll of British soldiers since 2001 to 73. Two soldiers were also injured in the incident. The British soldiers were on a mission to disrupt Taliban activity north west of Kajaki, in the lawless Helmand province.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi appealed to political parties to withdraw the rail roko agitation for demanding the creation of a Salem railway division. The union railway minister had assured Karunanidhi that the 'division would be created at any cost'.
