Kalam to address nation for the last time

APJ Abdul Kalam, will step down from the post of the President of the world's largest democracy today. He will address the nation for the final time later in the day. In his final address to the Parliament of Monday, the President thanked all the MP's also wished his successor Pratibha Patil good luck.

A UK-based NRI entrepreneur, Raj Kundra, refuted his ex-wife's allegations that Bollywod heart-throb, Shilpa Shetty, was responsible for wrecking his marriage and apologised to Ms Shetty for his ex-wife's statements. Kundra, also added that his association with Shilpa was "purely professional" while acknowledging that they had become good friends over the past few months.

Haneef 'bails out' Australian police

Mohammad Haneef, who is being held in 'solitary confinement' by the Australian police for alleged terror links, has given a clean chit to the Australian police. Haneef told his lawyers that the reports claiming that the police tampered with his personal diary were false and the AFP officers had not done anything like that.

The arrest of a lawyer, Tahar Singh, who was charged with creating a nuisance in the court has sparked off a protest by colleagues. Singh, was arrested following a letter written by his wife, alleging that she was being tortured for dowry. Lawyers in Chandigarh will meet on Tuesday to protest against the court's order to arrest Singh.

Haneef investigation done professionally: Australia

The Australian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, said that he was comfortable with the way the federal police is handling the Mohammed Haneef case. Adding that the police are extremely professional, the minister admitted it was difficult to get the balance right between civil liberties and stopping terrorism.

Delhi HC refuses to stay extradition : Hannah Foster Case

The Delhi High Court refused to stay the order allowing extradition of Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, accused in rape and murder of British teenager Hannah Foster, to the United Kingdom. The review petition was filed by Kohli after the Supreme Court refused to grant him any relief and directed him to approach the high court.

American to build Indian 'Vedic Centre'

An American architect, Alfred J Valerio, who has lived in India for over 30 years wants to build a 'Vedic Centre' in the US, on the lines of the one being constructed more than 100 km from Kolkata.Work on the $40-million project will commence in December, in the Southern Tier area of New York State.
