Murky land deals on border

Large tracts of land have been sold in the border district of Barmer and Jaisalmer. The state is worried as no proper identification of the buyers has been carried out. Three district officials who conducted out the registration have been suspended. Rajsasthan government has ordered a special inquiry into the land deals.

WB govt struggles to control bird flu

The government is struggling to contain a serious outbreak of bird flu that has spread across almost half of West Bengal. The virus has been detected in nine of the states 19 districts. As the flu closes in on capital Kolkata, surveillance has been intensified but the Centre has said that the efforts are simply not enough.

Markets are trading weak in the noon deals of Thursday with the benchmark index at 17,406 levels making a loss of 1.06 per cent or 187 points. The benchmark index touched 18,185 in the intra-day trade.
