Hours after the Pakistan Supreme Court granted Nawaz Sharif the permission to return to the country, the Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf said that the former premier could return home. The President said that Sharif had gone into exile by his own choice, as he wanted his jail term to be remitted.

The US and Asian indices were on a downtrend with Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average dropping 0.3 percent to 16,271.08 and the Kospi index declining 1.1 percent in South Korea. Meanwhile, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 1.57, or 0.1 per cent, to 1,462.5, the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 0.25 to 13,235.88 and Nasdaq Composite Index slipped 11.1, or 0.4 percent, to 2,541.70.

The BSE's benchmark Sensex opened higher by over 152 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Friday on account of selective buying by funds. In the first five minutes of trade, the Sensex -which loss over 85 points in previous day's trading -bounced by 152.09 points at 14,316.07, while the Nifty rose by 49.35 points at 4,164.30.
