Markets in the red on account of political uncertainity

The stock market on Thursday closed in the red on account of political uncertainity as the Left threatened to withdraw support to the UPA coalition. Inspite of a firm trend across global markets, the benchmark BSE Sensex closed at 14,163, down 85 points or 0.6% and the Nifty closed at 4114, down 0.9%.

Motilal Oswal's IPO subscribed 27 times

Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd.'s initial Public Offering (IPO) was subscribed more than 27 times. According to the NSE, the company had received bids for 81.53mn shares against the issue size of 2.98mn shares. The price band for the IPO which opened on August 20 was fixed at Rs725 to Rs825 per share.

Top 4 US banks borrow from US Fed

The four biggest US banks namely Citigroup, Bank of America, JPMorgan and Wachovia have each borrowed $500m from the US Federal Reserve. This is a symbolic move considering the fact that all the banks borrowing from the central bank can obtain less-expensive funds elsewhere.

PM approves North-East Railway project

Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister, has given his approval for the funding of the Bogibeel Rail-cum Road Bridge and the Rangia–Murkongselek gauge conversion projects, which would cost Rs19.80bn. The Railways would be provided additional Budgetary support, in the form of a fund called the “ North East Rail Development Fund” which will be set up to ensure the timely completion of the projects.

Builders of IT parks to strike gold

As per a new resolution of the state government with regard to changes in the FSI rules for IT/ITeS parks, the builders will be enabled to make a much more profitable use of 100% extra floor space index (FSI) granted to them for IT/ITeS parks. A portion of the extra FSI can be used by the builders for establishments which provide financial services such as banks, insurance companies etc.
