India's most wanted dacoit, Dadua, has been gunned down by the Uttar Pradesh's Special Task Force in a fierce gun battle that took place in the dense Markundi forests of Manikpur in Chitrakoot district, bordering Madhya Pradesh.

UN inspectors to visit Japanese radiation site

The Japanese government has said that it would permit a team of UN inspectors to visit its largest nuclear plant in hopes of easing international concern after an earthquake caused a radiation leak. A 6.8 Richter-scale earthquake on July 16 caused a fire at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant, triggering fears of a nuclear hazard.

30 female foetuses found at a garbage dump: Orissa

The remains of at least 30 foetuses were pulled out of an abandoned well in Nayagarh in Orissa on Sunday. Female infanticide is very common in the Nayagarh district and it isn't a surprise that most of the foetuses found were female. The police are conducting raids in nursing homes across the district, following the discovery of seven female foetuses, nine days ago.
