The prayer leader of Islamabad’s Lal Masjid, Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi,has issued a fatwa to kill Salman Rushdie, the India-born author who was recently knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. A group of hardline Pakistani clerics said that they had bestowed a religious title on Osama bin Laden in response to a British knighthood for author Salman Rushdie. Amanullah Aman, who was a state minister for labour in former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's cabinet, has been sentenced to 13 years in jail for amassing wealth through illegal means, by an anti-corruption court in Bangladesh.
