The American Senate Committee on Foreign Relations has criticised the Bush administration for having a "Musharraf policy" instead of a policy for Pakistan. It has also referred to Pakistan as "the most dangerous country in the world".

The External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee stated that the government was confident of addressing the Left concerns on issues of national interest, including the Indo-US civil nuclear deal. He also said that the UPA constituents expressed full faith in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress extended an olive branch to the Left parties by offering to set up an expert group to examine all aspects of the Indo-US Civilian Deal. The Congress's move was in response to a demand from Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) polit buro member Sitaram Yechury for a mechanism to thoroughly examine the Hyde Act.

12 injured in attack on Indians : Germany

A group of Indian fairgoers in a village in the eastern German State of Saxony were attacked by Germans. Eight Indians and four Germans were reported injured in the scuffle. The reason for the attack, is however unknown.

The former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq is the first Pakistani player to sign up to play in the rebel Indian Cricket League. According to unconfirmed reports, Abdul Razzaq and Mohammad Yousuf have also signed up with the league. Besides pakistan players Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif have received fresh offers from the league.

15 Al Qaeda activists arrested : Manipur

As per official sources, fifteen suspected al Qaeda activists have been arrested from Moreh town in Chandel district of Manipur bordering Myanmar. The sources added that 10 activists were Myanmarese, five were from Bangladesh.

The Left's stand-off against the nuclear deal continues unabated with the Left parties showing no signs of relenting. The Communist Party of India-Marxist, Communist Party of India, Revolutionary Socialist Party and Forward Bloc are meeting in Delhi on Monday evening to consider the ruling UPA coalition's stand that the government is not in a position to put the deal on hold.

Women in the Noushera belt of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district are taking up guns to defend their homes from rebels who infiltrate from across the border. The women who once cooked food for the infiltrating militants are now taking up AK-47 rifles to fight them.
