India rejected the charge that it is one of the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, instead it accused the developed countries of externalising the problem they had created and trying to pass on the cost of the solution to the developing nations.The Indian UN Ambassador, Nirupam Sen said India with 17 per cent of the population has only 4 per cent of global green house gases.

A motorway bridge over the Mississippi river in the state of Minneapolis in the US collapsed during the evening rush hour killing seven people and injuring at least sixty. Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan has decided to file a petition in the Pakistan Supreme Court seeking a directive to allow him to return to Pakistan from exile. Sharif has been in exile since 2000 in Jeddah, however since the last year he has been settled in London.

A CBI raid at the residence of Delhi Assembly canteen-owner and one-time autorickshaw driver Ashok Malhotra, recovered more than 50 cars and 10 motorcycles,all bearing special VIP number plates. According to CBI sources, over 5,000 land documents were also recovered in the raid. The raid indicates a multi-crore scam that could involve politicians.

The CPI (M) has suggested that the government must implement the recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission, to ensure that Muslims do not feel alienated. The Srikrishna Commission was set up to enquire into the bloody Mumbai riots of 1993, which followed the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992.
