Haneef to be deported after trial, says Australia

The Australian Immigration Minister, Kevin Andrews, has said that Haneef would continue to remain in detention until his trial, but after that it is very unlikely he will be allowed to remain in Australia. If there are no new development in the case, Haneef will most likely be deported from the Australia after legal proceedings are over.

A strong earthquake took place in Japan's northwest coast on Monday killing at least nine people and injuring more than 1,000. Nearly 13,000 people crowded evacuation centres amidst fears of mudslides and aftershocks. The earthquake also triggered a fire in an electrical transformer and caused a leak of radioactive water at the Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant.

A six-year old boy, Aman Priyadarshan Panda, was crushed to death under the wheel of the chariot of Lord Jagannath at Balangir in Orissa. The mishap took place during the Rath Yatra which got under way on Monday amid tight security, witnessed by lakhs of devotees.

A six-year-old bull called Shambo, who had tested positive for bovine TB, had been condemned to be slaughter. The Pakistani police have detained 39 people in connection with an attempt on the life of Prez Musharraf which took place on July 6 as the President's aircraft took off from a military airbase in Rawalpindi. Investigators, have traced the suspected attackers' telephone calls to 39 people, who have been detained and transferred them to an undisclosed location.

The Pakistan Supreme Court has expressed it's displeasure over the continued detention of the surrendered "students" of Lal Masjid's madrassas. The court has added that as per the law, no one can be kept in detention for more than 24 hours and has to be produced before a court within that period.
