A tsunami alert was issued on Wednesday to the Andaman and Nicobar islands, after a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 on the Richter scale stuck Indonesia. Meanwhile the Central government asked the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration to monitor the situation.

The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had announced that he would quit citing political reasons. He was later admitted to a hospital as he felt unwell thus fueling speculations that he resigned due to health reasons.

Court directs CBI to frame charges against Pandher

In a move that could give a shot in the arm to the prosecution in the Nithari serial killings case, the CBI special court of Ghaziabad has directed the agency to frame charges against Moninder Singh Pandher under offences of rape and murder. After going through the statement of Nand Lal - the father of a victim, the Special CBI Judge Rama Jain issued the directive to the agency.

Volvo targets 10,000 cars in India : 2010

The Volvo Car Corporation is targetting sales of 10,000 cars in India by the year 2010 and also plans to introduce S40 - a small sedan in the domestic market in 2009. The Swedish carmaker considers India as an emerging market for luxury cars.
