The fifth ODI between India and Australia began at Vadodara with the Indians winning the toss and electing to bat. The Indians began on a weak note losing their fourth wicket for 33 runs in 7 overs. The playing 11 for both the teams remained the same as the last match at Chandigarh.

Former allrounder and England cricket great Ian Botham was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday. Botham was was honored for his services to sport and his charity work for leukemia research. "I've had some great moments in sport and other walks of life but nothing matches this," Botham said. "It was mind blowing, magnificent."

Hundreds of schoolchildren who gathered to view their favourite players were denied entry to the Reliance Stadium, the venue of the fifth ODI, when the Indian team practised Wednesday morning.

The standoff between the Aussie players and Sreesanth continued with the Aussie media claiming that the Kerala paceman taunted Andrew Symonds during the fourth ODI at Chandigarh. According to sources, the IT officials have conducted raids at five premises owned by Gambhir's family, and seized cash, jewellery, share certificates and some "incriminating" documents.
