Prez Kalam's claim that people were looking to the judiciary as their only hope and that the nation is facing a "shortage of leadership with nobility" has been criticised by the politicians of the Congress as well as the BJP. The politicians felt that Kalam's statements were both unbecoming and improper.

Govt mulls 'licence fee' on every TV set

The Government is considering a proposal of imposing a recurring annual 'licence fee' of Rs 500 for each colour television set, and Rs 200 for a black & white TV, in a bid to generate revenue for the Prasar-Bharati. The fee would have to be borne by television owners. This is one of the different options before the government to raise funds as a bailout measure for the cash-strapped Prasar Bhar

Meerut Gang-Rape Case: Hospital license suspended

As per the report submitted by a three-member inquiry panel, probing the alleged gang rape of a minor girl in the ICU of a leading private hospital at Meerut, the district magistrate has ordered cancellation of its licence. Also, the police are on the lookout for Dr Ravi Prakash, the director of M Prakash Nursing Home, where the girl was allegedly raped by two ward boys.

Girl thrown into river by father

A seven-year old girl, Sunita, who had contracted a severe kidney ailment was thrown into a river by her father as he could not afford her treatment. Upon hearing this, Dr Sudarshan Ballal, the director of Manipal Hospital, offered to privde Sarita treatment free of charge.

A seven-year-old girl, Priya, was attacked by a pack of around twenty stray dogs who killed her at Nushera Khurd village on the outskirts of Amritsar on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the morning when Priya went out all alone to answer the call of nature.

The radical cleric of the Lal Masjid, Abdul Rashid Ghazi, was killed as Pakistani troops flushed out entrenched militants inside a women's religious school in room by room fighting, according to a state-run television. Two security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity said Ghazi's body was found in the basement.
