Boy commits suicide after being scolded for watching TV: Kolkata

In a shocking incident, a 11-year-old boy, Kartick Boiragi, a resident of Barasat in the North 24-Parganas district of West Bengal, committed suicided after being rebuked by a shop owner. The boy was scolded for watching television in front of a sweet shop where he had gone to purchase some sweets, by a shop owner.He felt hurt and insulted and hence decided to take the extreme step.

80 villages on 'Flood-Alert' : Gujarat

The Sardar Sarovar dam built on the Narmada river in Gujarat has started overflowing and hence 80 villages located on banks of rivers flowing through the Bharuch, Vadodara and Ahmedabad districts in Gujarat, have been on a flood-alert as water levels are expected to rise due to heavy inflow of water from Madhya Pradesh.

ONGC vessel sinks off Mumbai coast

A supply vessel of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), the Samudrika-10, has sunk off the Mumbai coast. Of the 14 people on board, nine were rescued immediately, a company official said. Rescue operations were on, but reason for the accident was not known immediately.

A ban has been sought on the Rajnikant-starrer, Sivaji-the Boss', by a Congressman for allegedly defaming UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A PIL has been filed in the Madras High Court, seeking a ban of the film on the grounds that it portrayed Gandhi and Singh in a bad light in a bid to malign the Congress party.

The last rites of former PM Chandra Shekhar were performed by his sons Pankaj and Neeraj at Ekta Sthal as his mortal remains were consigned to the flames with full state honours amidst chanting of Vedic hymns on the banks of the Yamuna on Monday. No curbs on media :BMW case

In a move that upholds the freedom of the press, the Delhi High Court refused to impose curbs on the media in connection with the TV expose in the BMW case in which the prosecution and the defense were shown to be allegedly colluding. Also, the court has directed NDTV, the news channel which carried out the sting operation, to file an affidavit stating all the details of the expose.

Aussie defense minister to visit India
